More Premier League action to look forward to this weekend. My only bet of the weekend last time out was a winner, so hopefully that continues. In this preview of Premier League round 7, I have three picks for you!

Saturday Night Football
Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool

This has every ingredient to be a properly nice finish to the football Saturday. Two attacking teams who don’t think about consequences is always a great recipe for entertainment.

I’ve gone on record to say that I think Spurs are due a thrashing. Not necessarily in terms of getting dominated, but just by getting a little smack across the face and lose by heavy numbers. The way they play leaves them vulnerable to lose the ball in dangerous areas, and having an off-day might see them give away some bad goals.

We’ve already seen signs of that: against a better and more clinical team than Arsenal (on the day) on Sunday, I think they would concede more than two goals. By all means, they should continue expressing themselves and be positive, because it’s great fun to watch and I would love to be a Spurs fan right now, but it’s quite obvious in my eyes that they will have a bump or two along the way at some stage. This might be the first roadblock, when a top team comes to town.

Liverpool had a midweek game to think about, but fielded a heavily rotated team to beat Leicester City by three goals to one. They want to press high (not as much as in previous Klopp years), and play with a real intensity – on and off the ball. Dominik Szoboszlai looks like a real player, Salah is in great nick, MacAllister should be an outstanding signing, and Darwin has gotten his mojo back. Things are very positive and encouraging for Liverpool these days.

My bet in this game is a proper longshot. I’m waiting for a little Spurs slip, and I think this game might be it. Liverpool over 4.5 goals at 15.00 is my pick for this Premier League round 7 game, which is clearly an unrealistic longshot.

Tame Wolves
Wolves v Manchester City

Being an Ipswich fan, I watched Wolverhampton Wanderers’ game at Portman Road against my beloved Tractor Boys on Tuesday night. They did take the lead very early on, and eventually made it 2-0. However, their intensity and aggression dropped very suddenly, so it was clear to see that they started to become open and didn’t get their defensive distances right. Ipswich punished them like no other, and went on to win the game 3-2 – deservedly so.

Well, “punished them like no other” might not be an encouraging take when they have Manchester City next – who typically are the most lethal team out there. I watched parts of their Carabao Cup game against Newcastle United, where it’s safe to say that they should have performed better, bearing in mind their team selection in comparison to Newcastle’s.

For this game, I think that Wolves will find it really difficult. The problem is that the market agrees, so that there’s not much value to find on the away side. 1.34 is a short price for any team, especially away from home against a side who are in the same division and have a history of making life tricky for you. No bet here.

Boring Palace?
Manchester United v Crystal Palace

This is my second bet of the weekend, where I’m betting on Man United to keep a clean sheet against Palace. Amrabat will play, and Varane is back, which makes United tighter defensively. Palace didn’t offer much in the cup game on Tuesday, and I think they’ll struggle to create her. 2.32 is a great price for a home team clean sheet at Old Trafford.

My Bet of The Weekend
West Ham United v Sheffield United

West Ham are good, but more so against teams who let them counter attack and are comfortable having all of the possession. Sheffield United offer a different test, and have focused intensely on defensive shape after losing 8-0 to Newcastle last weekend. I can’t see this being open and high scoring, in a game where I reckon we’ll see 3-5-2 v 3-5-2 and little in terms of spaces to exploit. 2.30 is a very high price for under 2.5 goals; seven out of West Ham’s 19 home games last season saw over 2.5 goals.

Conclusion

Three picks this weekend in my preview of Premier League round 7:
